If this is your first offense, you are not likely to go to jail but you need to think about protecting your record. Get a lawyer in order to ensure the least amount of long term damage. Having a permanent theft conviction on your record will complicate your ability to get future employment greatly.

Not to scare you, but prison time, plus fines and penalties, is what the code sections say you potentially face, since you were charged with what can be treated as a felony. However, plea bargaining is the normal way such cases are disposed of. I would expect that your attorney could get the charges reduced to a misdemeanor, with probation and fines, since this is your first arrest. The worst I would expect is a small amount of local jail time or 'community service' instead of jail. If this is in SoCal courts, and you're serious about getting legal help, feel free to contact me.
