How is easy, get referrals from the Bar Association, or Lawyer Referral Service, or friends and family. Talk with them til you feel comfortable. The hard part is paying the substantial fees typically charged.

you can basically get referrals thru the state bar association or thru various referral services run independently, especially if you have the legal budget associated with a private counsel and such a capital offense charge (i.e. expert witnesses, etc..). the private attorney route can be quite costly, however, could prove to be most beneficial in preparing your defense case. if not, the public defender is an option if you do not have such a legal budget for private representation. you can also obtain neceesary expert witnesses, trial transcripts, etc..thru public representation. however, if you are looking for a private attorney in this matter, feel free to email my Law Firm directly with the particular facts to your case, and we may be able to provide very valuable assistance to you thereafter.

As stated, murder one case is not something you can take sitting back.

As perhaps is unfortunate, the more money you are willing to spend on the defense, the better the chances you will retain the proper people to help you put on your best defense.

It is true that you can always go with the public defender to save money and that the public defender has many resources available that a private criminal defense attorney may not; however, that is a choice that you will have to make.

The information provided to you is of a general nature. We hope this information has been helpful to you, but you should always obtain competent legal counsel who is familiar with your specific legal issues to determine the best course of action. Re: 19 yr. old murders father...is it to late for social services?

The defense of a murder one case is extremely complex and the insanity defense even complex. It will require the hiring of exceptionally qualified experts, background investigators, and, of course the lawyer to get the point across to the jury. If you are prepared to incur the cost which will certainly run into the six figures, you can first go to the local bar association and get a list of lawyers that practice criminal law. The next step will be to interview several of them, picking the one that you believe to be not only competent but also sympathetic to the claim of insanity. You will need to be prepared to explain why insanity may be a valid defense.

If you cannot afford an attorney then you should get to the public defenders office and spend a lot of time encouraging the defense sought. Public defenders get a bad rap because of the high caseload that they are forced to handle. However, as the crimes get bigger, the lawyers get better and thy have more time. They also have free resources available in the form of investigators and experts that will be paid for by the system. The experts available are also quite good.

If I can be of further help, please call or write.
