Money for attorney fees and valid grounds. If you're serious about pursuing it, feel free to contact me.

First off, you need to file a notice of appeal before the applicable deadline. (Calculating the deadline can be difficult; I won't try to explain the rules here.) You also have to pay the filing fee and initial transcript deposit, which total about $750. But that's just the beginning.
To win the appeal you will need to submit convincing briefs and (although this is less important) offer a persuasive oral argument. You will also need a record of the proceedings in the trial court; the record normally includes a reporter's transcript of what was said in court at trial and at each significant hearing before and after the trial, as well as copies of all significant documents filed with the court. All of this must be prepared in the proper format and within specific deadlines.
I have been handling civil and criminal appeals for fifteen years and am certified by the State Bar of California's Board of Legal Specialization as a specialist in appellate practice. Feel free to contact me directly if you want to discuss your case further.

About $800 in filing fees plus whatever I charge, which depends on many factors. Also you must file a notice of appeal within the time limit.
