I assume you mean 647(f) - public intoxication. Penal Code section 647f (without the parentheses) is felony prostitution.
A lot will depend on how many priors you have, how long ago and what the facts of the current case are. First, they have to be able to prove the new case against you. The priors don't automatically increase any punishment, but they will certainly factor them in when deciding what to do with you if/when there's a plea deal. They could be looking for you to do rehab or jail. Because of this, it's probably worth an attorney. If you're going to hire one, do it sooner, rather than later - don't wait until right before your court date. There may be things your attorney suggests to get you in the best position for a good outcome.
To plead not guilty, and set a pre-trial hearing date.
Of course you can fight the charges. When arrested or charged with any crime, the proper questions are, can any testimony or evidence obtained in a test, search or confession be used against you, and can you be convicted, and what can you do? Raise all possible defenses with whatever admissible and credible witnesses, evidence, facts and sympathies are available for legal arguments, for evidence suppression or other motions, or at trial. While this isn't a 'capital case', you certainly face potential jail and fines, so handle it right. If you don't know how to represent yourself effectively against an experienced prosecutor intending to convict, then hire an attorney that does, who will try to get a dismissal, diversion program, reduction, or other decent outcome through plea bargain, or take it to trial if appropriate. If serious about hiring counsel to help in this, and if this is in SoCal courts, feel free to contact me. Ill be happy to help, using whatever defenses there may be.

Since you have no record and if its drunk in public you can expect that if found guilty you will be put on probation for up to three years and you may get away without doing any time. But still you should have a lawyer. If you ask the court will give you time to hire one. If you cannot afford one the court will appoint one to represent you.
