arrested in court

I have a question. My friend was out on bail for one case and as he was walking in the hallway to attend his court date, detectives from another case that was dismissed last year arrested him. He had a warrant for his arrest for that case and arrested him right before he entered the court room to appear on the other case. IS that legal? They even told him they did it so that he would get his bail exonerated on the other case...what should he do?

Get an attorney. Either hire private counsel or get the PD if he has no money.

Yes, a person can be arrested any where within the jurisdiction of the court issuing the warrant. Generally, law enforcement will not arrest someone inside the court room on a warrant from another court. Usually the court will instruct the defendant to immediately go to the other court to clear the warrant. Otherwise, the court will have the person taken into custody on the other warrant.
