Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

I was arrested for having a few xanax and vicodin in an unlabeled bottle. I have been going to mexico to buy my prescriptions and really don't have anything to prove this. I have chronic back pain and history of deppression/anxiety. I do have medical rec's that can back up the history. Can I plead not guilty?? What is the law regarding obtaining personal use meds from mexico??

The drugs you had in your possession require a prescription. The fact you obtained the drugs from Mexico is not relevant. The question is did you have a doctor's prescription for these drugs. A prescription from a doctor in Mexico my be considered a valid prescription. You should definitely plead not guilty. Either retain an attorney or ask for the public defender be appointed to represent you.

I would definately plead Not Guilty. Your attorney can hopefully get the charges reduced or dismissed after you plead not guilty at the arraignment. Feel free to contact my office if you have questions. Best of luck.

Yes, you must plead not guilty unless you want to simply accept a prison sentence. If you don't know how to effectively defend yourself, hire an attorney that does. If serious about doing so, feel free to contact me.
