Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

Assaulted in parking lot

My mother-age 74 was assaulted in the parking lot of a store by a woman-approx mid 20's. The police were called by a witness to the incident but the police said that if my mother pressed charges that the person who attacked her could have my mother arrested as well. My mother was scared and did not press charges and 3 days later was hospitalized for congestive heart failure caused by the stress of the assault. Can we do anything to get this person arrested before she hurts someone else?

Re: Assaulted in parking lot

Sure, and you should. Unless your elderly mother is really tough, I don't understand why the police would say and do that, except they just didn't want to get involved. The police will probably now tell you to call a lawyer. You can bring suit, but unless the defendant has money, you won't recover anything and will spend money on an attorney. If you want to do that on principle, or if the person has assets, contact me to discuss.
