Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

Auto theft

I work at Costco Business center, well my car was stolen out the parking lot. And I am also employee, They have video cameras that don't work, not only I feel it is unsafe, because we have no protection. Now I am stuck with no mode of transportaion to go to work. can I hold Costco, responsible?

I agree with Mr. Hoffman. As a general rule apartment owners, stores etc do not guarantee the safety of individuals that are on or use their facilities.

I doubt it. The responsible party is the person who stole your car. Owners of parking facilities (including parking lots surrounding places of business) are required to take reasonable care, but are not de facto insurers of all the cars parked on their property.

Even if there had been working video cameras, it is very likely that your car would have been stolen anyway. Surveillance video might have helped identify the thief, but that is all it could have done. The fact that your employer could have had better evidence of what happened does not make it responsible for someone else's crime.
