Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
bad checks
I had 7 checks with no funds. My employer kept promising everybody would get paid as soon as we could finish some big jobs, but he never paid anybody. In the end I got laid-off but still did not get paid. I decided to go to the labor commissioner. There they told me to fill out a form. I asked the lady there if she needed copies of the checks since I had the originals. She said she didn't but I needed to go to the bank that issued the checks and get proof that the checks didn't have funds. I did as she said the very same day. When I got to the bank the girl there checked all 7 checks and said none had funds. I asked her if I could get some kind of proof from them to prove that these checks had bounced. She asked the manager and the manager said that the was no way I could get proof. She advised me to go to make photocopies of my checks and deposit them in my bank. That was the only way I could get proof when I'd get my statement. The labor commissioner called me today and told me that she needed the checks with the nsf stamp, now I don't have the original checks and don't know what to do. I owe people money everywhere. My credit card providers know I'm unemployed and keep calling me. To the point where I feel harassed.

Re: bad checks
You'll shortly get the original checks back again showing NSF, along with new NSF charges from your bank for depositing them.
