Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

Blackmail by an Ex?

I was involved with someone for 7 years. I am in a new relationship. The Ex is unhappy about the relationship and continues to threaten different actions in order to control my behavior. The latest threat is that she has a box of files that I brought home to work on and never brought back. This is property of my employer. She is holding them ''hostage'' so that I will 1) continue communication with her and 2)spend time with her daughter. I have asked for these files back but have not received them. She has threatened to go to my employer and get me fired if I do not comply. I just want to be left alone and to get the files returned to my employer. She has used my personally identifying information to access bank records and phone records. I've tried a restraining order, but she manipulated that system, too. What is a person to do?

Re: Blackmail by an Ex?

It might work to have an attorney contact her and explain the facts of life. It may be necessary to get a restraining order that includes demand for return of property, order not to contact employer, etc. If you are interested, contact me.
