Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

Please help boyfriend arrested on bench warrant!

My boyfriend was arrested the other night on a routine check for a bench warrant that he didnt even know he had. This was for an assalt and battery that happened a year ago, he is currently on probabtion, does have a record but has stayed out of trouble, and is currently holding two jobs. I am worried that he will have to stay in jail. My question is what can happen in a case like this? What are the chances of something like this being dropped and him not doing any jail time? I am worried sick here and would greatly appreciate any kind of information.

All the 'information' in the world isn't going to do him any good. He needs to hire counsel immediately to deal with the problem. If he can't afford private counsel, apply for the public defender. A bench warrant, assuming it is not somehow an error, means there are charges outstanding, on which he risks doing time. If he wants to hire counsel, contact me to discuss the facts and procedures.

A bench warrant is issued when a person fails to appear in court. Which generally means that the person had notice of the court appearance.
