my brother was arrested while out on bail. is this extremely bad and what is the most common sentencing?

Probably he won't get bail again. What is the most common sentencing? You didn't say what he's charged with. Did you help him get a private lawyer yet?
Arrested implies for a new crime. If so, he faces two separate charges, neither of which you bothered to explain. Whatever the charges are will determine what the maximum prison/jail time he faces. His attorney's job is to use whatever defenses and evidence he may have, either to fight the charges, take the case to trial, or negotiate a plea bargain acceptable to your brother.
