Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
In California, can I legally own a handgun living in the same residence as my brother, who is a convicted felon? Is he allowed to be in the same house?

There should be no problem if the felon has no access to the gun; this is YOUR responsibility. Check out both CA law (PCS 12072) and federal law (18 USC 922(d)) that make it illegal for you to furnish a felon with a firearm, so you should take careful steps to assure that you could not be accused of such.

P.S. In my opinion, I recommend you get a safe where only YOU know the combination or have the key. Hiding under the bed or in the closet just isn't good enough to protect yourself. Good luck.
