Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

The owner of the ID will be contacted to determine how you obtained it. If you slipped it out of the owner's purse or wallet without their permission you could be charged with a more serious crime such as theft. Consult with an attorney and do not discuss this matter with anyone, but your attorney, or priest.
The consequences depend upon the charge[s] brought against you, the conduct alleged, and whatever defenses you may have. They could range up to felony prison time. No way of knowing until review of the charges. If serious about getting legal counsel in this, and if the charges are in SoCal courts, feel free to contact me.
