Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
Check fraud information
This is really difficult to explain. But it's bothering me so I need some advice. My spouse who I am divorcing was living with her dad. Then she gets asked to leave. I felt bad so I let her stay here for a month.
Then I heard she was writing checks from an account her dad has, and it was for a lot of money over time. Well, he's mad, I heard he's telling bank to prosecute.
So, while she was here, I found some papers while putting her stuff in the closet. I mean it, moved a box with clothes piled on top and it tumbled over. She had them in between some clothes.
IT WAS THE PAPERS! I couldn't believe it. She took the mail intended to go to the Bank and she stole it. I got a little shakened up because, it looked bad. Lot's of checks, some small and some big amount's. Right after that, I said did you find a place-good go.
But I like her dad, and I feel like I'm doing something wrong because, she shouldn't have done that. I've written letters, to her dad, the bank--and then don't send them. But I feel guilty. This is why we're divorcing, irresponsible . What can I do to let someone have this---I feel weird about how this all looks too. Should I write to B of A or her dad, what will happen if I tell? I don't know-tell me, thanks

Re: Check fraud information
Ethics and morals dictate you provide the material to the father and let him determine what to do with it. That allows the victim to decide whether to involve the police. Alternatively, you could also turn it over to the police directly. It is the responsibility of every person to do the right thing, not remain silent and let wrongdoing continue. Wouldn't you want someone to do the right thing for you??
