Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

Child Abuse Charge

I spanked my son (11) with a belt on his butt. He has pulled a knife on me, stole, lied, failing grades, ''I don't care'' attitude, defiant, etc. and I lost it. It left red marks and he called the police and I was arrested for felony child abuse. What are the chances of me being formally charge? I have never been arrested before and only one speeding ticket in 15 years. I am 42 years old. My son has been in couseling and is on medication (Adderall & Lexapro) for ADHD. He has been diagnosed with ODD (Oppositional Defiance Disorder) and RAD (Reactive Attachment Disorder) I am ready to make him a ward of the court, but that is another question. Thanks for your ideas and information.

Re: Child Abuse Charge

Get yourself an experienced criminal defense attorney immediately, to defend you against the charges that ARE going to be brought in accordance with strong policies. You face serious consequences that the attorney can handle far better that any in pro per. You may have defenses and extenuating circumstances that will be used.
