Re: children

I'm not sure what the difference is between "lewd" and "indecent" acts, but you have a choice before you. You have a clean record. If you come out of this with a criminal conviction, you could have serious problems finding work, ever. Please consider retaining a private criminal lawyer to represent you. Borrow the money from family members if you must. If you go to court without having hired a lawyer, you will get the public defender, in all probability you will be pressured into pleading guilty, and you will have a criminal record. Please feel free to call me to discuss

Re: children

Each of the lewd acts charges (I assume it's Penal Code section 288) are strikes and carry up to 8 years in state prison per count.

You're looking at serious, serious charges.

You may have an argument about a pre-filing delay, but the statute of limitations is quite long on sex crimes.

Do NOT discuss these allegations with anyone until you consult with an attorney with substantial experience in sexual assault crimes.

Re: children

Your worst case scenario is that this could result in conviction on charges that would require you to register as a sex offender. Take this seriously, as it could affect your employability forever. If you have defenses and evidence like you refer to, your attorney will use them in appropriate motions, hearings and/or at trial. If you're serious about getting legal help, feel free to contact me; I'd be happy to help you.

Re: children

These are very serious charges even if you are young and did not know the other person's age. Among other things, if convicted, you might have to register as a sex offender for life. Make sure you do not talk about this to anyone unless it is your own lawyer. Get an attorney involved asap. If you cannot afford private counsel public defender will be appointed for you.
