Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

Can i choose my own public defender from the public defender office in my county? the public defender that is probably going to be assigned to me i dont want to have is there any way around it? can i also have a different judge?

1. No. If you want your choice of lawyers, hire one.

2. Yes. You get to reject a judge, one time, and there's no guarantee who you'll be stuck with after that. You can also demand a judge if you are assigned a commissioner or referee.

No, if the public defender is appointed to represent you, they assign it to whoever they want within the office. You can't pick.

Under the law, your lawyer can recuse any judge, but they can only do that one time per case. you wouldn't want to waste that one shot when it won't matter.

If you want to pick your attorney, you are free to HIRE whomever you want. You don't get to cherry pick judges.
