Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

clearing my record of felony's

In 1989 I was convicted of 2 felonies. 1 for embezzelement and 1 for grand theft. I was convicted with a co-defendant of stealing 21,000.00 from a company. I was guilty of the charges and was offered a deal of 5 years formal probation and full restitution of my half (10,500.00), plus AA or NA meetings, etc. At the time the judge said once all the requirements were met my charges on my record would be reduced to 2 misdemeanor charges. I paid my portion of the money back, completed 2 years of AA/NA, 14 months of clean drug testing and after 14 months of formal probation I was released from probation all together. After all these years I never went back to court or contacted them to have my charges reduced to misdemeanor's. Is it too late to have these changes made and if it's not to late what type of lawyer do I contact to help me. Also, this happened in a County that I have not lived in for 17 years. Thanks

Re: clearing my record of felony's

Contact the probation department in the county in which the conviction occurred. Obtain a copy of the local form and fill it out. submit the form requesting that the charges be reduced to misdemeanors and the expunged. There is statutory fee for this service. If for some reason the court does not reduce the charges and expunge the charges then you should consult with an attorney.
