Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

Controlled substance (meth)

Me and my sister were on our way to work, my sister was the driver I was passenger. My sister had just finished smoking a small marijuana joint when a police officer got behind us and pulled us over, as he approached the car my sister lowered her window and the officer asked her for driver license and registration as my sister gave the officer the d.l and registration the officer looked at it then asked both of us to get off the car and sit on the curve, me and my sister sat on the curve with our purses, the officer asked me for my I.d, I looked in my purse and gave it to him, he then asked if he could search my purse, I said no you can't and then the officer said actually I can, I have probable cause. He then began searching my purse and in the small pocket of my purse their was a small amount of crystal meth, he grabbed it and said look what I found. I then went to jail, I booked and released within an hour or two I have never before this incident been to jail or have had any criminal priors, I have court on the 18th of this month what should I expect in court?

Expect jail and fines unless your attorney can convince the DA to cut a deal without jail. It may be possible to get you into a drug diversion program instead of jail. IT may be possible to supress the evidence, which would result in the case being dismissed. Feel free to contact me if interested in legal help.

Good for you, refusing a search. So if the cop had the right to search your purse, why did he ask for permission?? If you hire a lawyer, as you should, maybe you can have the meth suppressed as evidence on the grounds the search was illegal. On the other hand, if you do meth nobody in the criminal justice system will care what happens to you.
