Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
getting old convctions off your record
11 years ago when i was a teenager i was convicted of two drug misdemeanors. at the time i was given a drug program, that if completed the charges would be removed from my record. I did not complete the program and served a jail sentence instead. I now would like to be a nurse but cannot with those charges on my record and for jobs in the medical field expungement does not work. Is there anything i can do to get those charges off my record completely or is it possible for a judge to allow me to do anything after 11 years to take them off my record?

Re: getting old convctions off your record
Records are forever. Judges can only grant expungement that allows some remediation of your record. If that won't work for you, sorry, you're out of luck. I don't understand why juvenile convictions are even being discussed, let alone why they are barring you from jobs; they are supposed to be confidential and sealed upon turning 18. Pursue this further with the state agency until you get a convincing answer.
