Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
I was convicted of an infraction, petty theft in California. Is there anyway to get it removed from my criminal record?
I was told by the courts that an infraction cannot be dismissed or expunged. I performed a background check on myself and it is listed in the background check under criminal records as a petty theft. I want to know if there is anyway to get this removed. If not, will this infraction conviction prevent employers from hiring me? I have no other related felony or misdemeanor convictions.

The court told you the correct answer, why wouldn't you believe them? Many felony and misdemeanor convictions can sometimes be 'expunged', but not infractions. Even if expunged, that does not 'remove' the conviction, but merely changes the record to show 'conviction reversed and dismissed by expungement'. Records are forever. That is the foreseeable natural consequence of a crime and conviction.
