can someone get convicted again on a closed case with new evidence years later?

Not of the same charges and by the same government, but he can be convicted a seond time by a different government (think state vs. federal) and/or for a different crime committed during the same incident.

If you were already 'convicted', then the same charges can not be brought again. But related charges could be, if within the statute of limitations. If the prosecutor has filed, or re-filed, charges, you have to assume he knows what he is doing, that's what he gets paid for. IF there are factual and legal grounds to bring motions such as 'double jeopardy' dismissal, then your attorney can certainly make those arguments properly and effectively.
