Crime at my business
I own a bar and there was a stabbing. I was called at three in the morning and showed up. what are my rights and why are the police not giving me any information

Your 'rights' are to defend any criminal or civil charges brought against you. You have limited, or no, rights to information from the police or prosecutor. It is unlikely you will be charged with any criminal conduct, but if you are threated with that, or if you get sued, feel free to contact me for help in your defense.

As far as the right to know about the police investigation, your right to "Know" is very, very limited...especially in the ivestigative stage, the police can withhold information as it might "compromise" the investigation...the only entity that can look at police investigations is the Prosecutors office, that does not mean that the police would not be cooperative with you if you are acting through counsel, only that they do have the ability to withold info.... as far as your potential civil liability...your exposure is substantial. If you do not have counsel on retainer for the business, do so ASAP.
