By requesting the PD office assign a new attorney, explaining your 'good cause'. But, if you're goal is to get someone to treat you like a client of a private attorney, with a lot of personal contact and 'handholding' and explanations, that's just not going to happen. That PD has dozens of cases on calendar each day. You get what you pay for. But, PD's are generally very good attorneys, with more trial and motion experience than private attorneys, so be careful to know your facts and don't make unsupported or unreasonable complaints about yours, who might not be replaced on your case.

Keep in mind that (generally) you will never get the same level of close attention to your case as from a private lawyer. If you want a private lawyer, simply retain one and he/she will substitute in and relieve the PD as your attorney of record.

If you simply want another public defender make a complaint/request to the PD Office. If they do not resolve the issue adequately, keep in mind that you have the right to make a request for a change straight to the judge.

Hope this helps,
