Your situation is screaming for an involvement by a good lawyer for a variety of reasons. It is not simply the best thing you can do, it is pretty much the only thing you can do. The ongoing investigation could mean your imminent arrest. Big advantage of getting a lawyer involved is not just that he/she will know what to do but he/she could also talk and negotiate various aspects of your situation without risk of incriminating you. You, on the other hand, should not talk to anyone unless it is your own lawyer.

"besides finding a good lawyer" for advice and assistance? And keeping quiet? Nothing. If serious about doing so, feel free to contact me.

Investigations can indeed be happening now without your knowledge. You may only be contacted if they're coming to arrest you or they are going to seek a statement from you.
Because you're looking at potential felony charges, you probably want to discuss this with a local criminal defense attorney to give you specific advice about how to protect yourself in the criminal process.

When someone is being investigated, the BEST position to be in is to know of the investigation before it is done and you are charged/arrested. What you can and should do is to hire a lawyer for the limited purpose of contacting the police and feeding them any information that helps your position, to see if with a balanced picture, the D.A. might decide not to bother charging you.
This ought to be much much cheaper than retaining a lawyer to defend you on the charges once they have happened. I have on a number of occasions been successful in convincing D.A.'s NOT to file against my client, and I charge only hundreds, not thousands to do it. So be pro-active and act now. Do NOT contact the police yourself, and don't answer any questions if they do contact you.
