Criminal record

I was convicted in 2001 of a misdemeanor trespassing charge. How long does this stay on your record for employment purposes?

Re: Criminal record

Forever. That is, unless you obtain an expungement of the conviction through motion to the court. That will allow you to say 'no' to convictions on private employment applications. Contact me if interested in pursuing this.

Good news, bad news...

you can have the record expunged...a PC 1203.4 petition. Your local Public Defender can help you.

Bad news...in the world of computer records, the "record" is always discoverable and employers vary on their treatment Re: expunged records...sometimes in violation of California law.
