Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

customer service call center reporting

If I work in the customer service call center of a large national (US) company, and an irate customer calls and says they are going to hurt or kill someone, am I obligated by law to alert the police or warn the potential victim?

You are not obligated by law per se but it is probably a very good idea. If the threat is against another person, you should protect yourself and your company that way from a threat of lawsuit if something bad were to happen. Also, if the threat is against you you need to think about your own safety. Why not, at the very least, report the incident to a higher-up in your company?

No, but common sense tells you to report it in writing to your company and recommend they do so.
