Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

dmv warrant CA

Hello.I lived in CA and moved out of the US. Came back 18 years later and found out at a DMV office that my license was suspended and that there is a warrant for my arrest on account of unpaid checks and credit card bills my ex husband left behind. Wasnt arrested at the DMV eventhough theres a warrant, but was told to get a lawyer. How can I go about this problem? Been divorced for over 12 years and now got married again. Hope someone can help. Thanks.

Re: dmv warrant CA

The dmv did not issue the warrant it merely informed of its existance. To determine the best course of action would require more information. It would be unlikely that a warrant for your arrest would result from conduct of your then husband. You should act quickly as you may be stopped by a police officer who will take you into custody on the warrant.

P.S. are you sure the warrant is for you and not someone else who may have assumed your identity or it is just a mistake in identity.

Re: dmv warrant CA

an attorney can help you by appearing and dealing with the charges at court. Depending on the facts and proof you have, he may be able to have the court dismiss the charges, or at least reduce it down to a small fine just to close out the case. If interested in discussing facts and fees, if the case is in the Southern California courts, contact me.
