Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

drug possession/possiblestrike

my ex-boyfriend was just arrested alittle over a month ago for5 felony drug charges which include poss. with intent to distrub.and sales and transporting a largeamt. of weed andcontrolled substance. he was found with a scale and baggiesalong with the drugs in a car he had just bought that had no tags on the front or back of the auto. Nor did he havea drivers liecense or insurance. He had only been released from state prison 22 days from doing nearly 2 years for auto theft and avioding capture from the police. he also has a prior strike for robbery. He wrote and told me that he is loking at 32 years. He does not have a very good track record when it comes to doing the rigth things when he is released on parole. He has been inthe system for at least14-15 years. two of hes charges carry 2,4,and4 years and the other two carry 3,4,and 5 years.I'm not sure what the scale and baggies carry. is there any way that someone can give me an idea as to what he may be looking at in general perhaps please. He was alone in the car with the drugs when he was pulled over. and he says that the attorney want 11,000 to take and fight the case. Is he just throwing his money away? I don't know what to tell him.please hepl with answers if u can. thanks.

Re: drug possession/possiblestrike

And what do you think you are going to do with any answers you receive here? They aren't going to be 'legal opinions'. only quick hints, and won't be based upon a review of all the facts, reports, documents, evidence, testimony, etc. necessary to give an intelligent opinion. Besides, unless you're an attorney, you can't do anything with them anyway; you can't appear or represent him in court. If you want a second opinion from an attorney, you're going to have to pay and consult with a local attorney for that purpose. If you're simply price shopping, you've already found a bargain basement price, less than half of what attorneys around here would quote you as a 'minimum'. If you're asking whether he needs an attorney, that is a foolish question. He obviously doesn't know how to effectively represent himself in court against an experienced prosecutor trying to put him in prison.
