Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

Drunk in Public Arrest, Was given a Court Date no info about me at Court

I was arrested for Drunk in Public May 6.

I was given a date to appear in court when I left the jail.

So I went to Court on the day I was told to appear 5/19/06 I was told the Court had nothing for me ''yet'' so they just gave me a new court date.

I just called the County Superior Court to confirm that I should show up for my new Court Date 6/9/06. They don't have anything for me once again. Nothing is in the computer system.

I was referred to call the DA. I called and they also have nothing in their computer system ''yet''. They told me to call the Police Department, to see what the hold up is.

Now, I don't know much but I do know that any legal issues go from the Police Department and are then taken care of from there by the DA's office.

How should I proceed? Is it possible they forgot about me or just dismissed the charges? If I call the Police Department will they pursue any charges that they might have forgot about?

Thanks

When you go to court, ask the clerk for proof that you were in court on that date. Say it is for work. They will usually be happy to give you a piece of paper with the date stamp and court seal. If you eventually find out there is a warrant for your "failure to appear," or your lawyer wants to fight the charges for violation of your right to a speedy trial, you will have evidence you showed up.

Yes, they might. Simply ask the court to take the matter off calendar and notify you by mail if and when the case is filed.
