What are the penalties for using a company check for 500. to pay a personal bill?

You are looking at embezzlement/grand theft with a maximum of three years in state prison. Likely to get probation, with or without time in county jail, if this is first time offense. With a good lawyer and a little luck you might be able to keep your record clean of any theft related felony. Perhaps your case can be beaten altogether.

For misdemeanor embezzlement, up to a year in jail, plus fines and restitution.
