Embezzlement and Blackmail

I have been working for a self-employed woman for the last 2 years. Last may she accused me for embezzlement. Instead of pressing charges, she demanded me to pay her bills. Till today, I have paid her bills in a sum of close to 20k. And she is demanding more ''punitive damages'' with vindictive emails, phone messages. She lives in the same building that I am in. She drops off notes by my door everyday. And knocked on my door in the middle of night. I don't know what to do. I don't have much money left to give to her. Do I have any legal rights against her? I am in the U.S. as a foreign student. She has threatened to have me deported.

If you took the money, she's right to demand you pay it back, although she is way out of line in her behavior. If you didn't take the money, you shouldn't have paid her. She can't have you deported. It would now be tough to try to get it back, since your payment can be used as an admission of guilt.
