Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

employment backround check

I have two previous DUI convictions. One in 1992 and another in 1996. I did everything that was required of me by the courts and then put the whole lifestyle behind me. I went back to school and got an RN degree. When I applied for my RN license I was required by the state board to write a letter explianing the circumstances of my convictions. Which I did. I was granted my license. Now my problem is that when applying for jobs the convictions come up on my backround check.I am sure that on more than one occasion I have been turned down for a job because of my previous record. What can I do to get my life back and the skeletons out of my closet? I feel that I've come a long way and keep hitting a brick wall despite all my efforts to reform.I was just recently offered a job then days later called and told they were not sure because of my record and would let me know their final decision. Now I am waiting. What can I do to ensure this doesn't happen again?

Re: employment backround check

You can have an attorney try to get an order 'expunging' your misdemeanor records, which means they are treated as if they had been dismissed at the time. If granted, they do not have to be disclosed in employment applications, but in your case, since they are DUI's, they will continue to show on police record checks.
