expungement

Do you have to have a lawyer from the state you were charged to expunge a charge, or can you use a lawyer from the state you reside in?

Re: expungement

Generally lawyers can only practice in the state they have their office in, so yes, get an attorney where the case and court are. Where the client lives now is not necessarily important. Feel free to contact me for the legal help you'll need, if you're seeking expungement of a CA conviction; if you and the offense qualify for expungment. That means no prison time sentenced, no sexual predator or related offenses or DUIs, all probation completed successfully.

You may not need a lawyer at all, though trying to do this on your own would be unwise if you can afford counsel.

Assuming you decide to hire a lawyer, you will need one who is admitted to practice in the state where you were convicted. Some lawyers are admitted in more than one state, and you may be able to find one near you who is also admitted in the other state.
