Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
My father has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and recently caused some problems that landed him in jail. He fired his public defender because he was paranoid about not being represented and then represented himself. I would like to know if a person like that is able legally represent himself in court, in my opinion it should not be allowed, but I would like an answer. Thank you.

If he is not 'competent' then the court should be asked to deny him self representation. A doctor's report would provide the evidence needed by the court. Talk to the PD office and request they do so. Alternatively, you could hire counsel to represent him. If serious about doing so, and if this is in LA/OC courts in SoCal, then feel free to contact me.
