Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

Felony expunging

What is an average attorney fee for felony reduction and expungement and once expunged what rights are returned to me? Will I be able to vote again? Be bonded? Own a gun or get a real estate license?

At attorney will normally charge you between $500 and $1,000 for an expungement. Expungements have limited although important benefits in that they allow you to say you have never been convicted of the crime if asked on job application. In California, an expungement by itself will not have an effect upon your ability to own a gun or get real estate license. You would need to jump through some additional hoops with respect to these issues. I believe you have the right to vote anyway, with or without expungement.

Hope this helps,

Re: Felony expunging

You should contact a good criminal defense attorney in the county in which you seek to get the felony reduction and expungement. I practice in Colorado. Your case in based on California Law.

Best of Luck

Re: Felony expunging

If the convictions ocurred in CA, then CA law controls. Which is good, as CO law does not currently allow sealing or expungement of convictions.

Re: Felony expunging

Expungement does NOT cure any of those specific problems or restore any rights you lost, although it helps in seeking employment. You may be able to get them restored by special motions and hearings, if you qualify. Feel free to contact me for the legal help you'll need, if the case and court are in SoCal.
