Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

Felony to Misdomeanor

When I was 18, I was convected of a felony, Assault with a deadly weapon. Even though I didn't do it, I was there and my public defender indicated to me that even though I didn't physically do it, it would be the same as if I robbed a bank and I was the get away driver, and a guard was killed, I would be charged with murder.

My probation officer told me as long as I didn't get in trouble again and I could prove to a judge that I have been doing well, I could get the felony down to a misdemeanor.

I am 24 now and I'm very interested in pursuing a career in Law Enforcement. I am a mother of 2 and have been doing very well. How much would something like this cost me?

I need to hire a lawyer to do this for me because I am in Illinois now and have no way of going over to California anytime soon. Please advise. Thank you.

Re: Reducing Felony to Misdemeanor

Thanks for your posting. I think quoting fees over the internet without further details, such as the court involved, would be very difficult.

However, if you want someone to handle it, and if it's in a court that we handle, I'd be happy to assist you in any way that I can and allow you to get a "fresh start" in your case.

Please feel free to email me at [email protected], or call my office toll free at 1-877-568-2977, and I can go from there.

As a California Attorney for 27 years, I think I can help you solve this problem, and without your appearance in Court. Please email me any details you have as to this conviction, such as, date, Court, Case No., and I will quote you a reasonable fee to expunge (erase) this conviction from your record. Thank You, George Woodworth

Re: Felony to Misdomeanor

By what you have provided thus far, this sounds like a post conviction relief. We can assist you even if you are not currently living in California. We can order transcripts of all court appearances and try to expunge the record. With regards to cost, it is difficult to quote a price until we can fully assess all of your records. However, we are sensitive to the fact that money is a big obstacle for most people looking to obtain legal services. For this reason, we usually try to work with peoples individual financial circumstances. If you need to discuss this matter further, please feel free to email us. And good luck.

The process is not all that expensive, and you should expunge the record so that you can say 'no' to convictions on most job applications. BUT, you should know that most police departments bar anyone with an arrest or conviction. The conviction, even though expunged, is still in the record for the departments to see, even though private employers can't. Contact me if interested in getting it done.

Re: Felony to Misdomeanor

Contact the probation department in the county in which the offense occurred and request the form to have the conviction reduced to a misdemeanor and expunged from your record. Unless there is a complication the probation department should do this for less than $100. It would be completed in about 90 days.
