Actually since the amount taken is under $950 it will probably be charged as a misdemeanor with a maximum of a year in jail. However if you have a prior record or get charged with second degree burglary you may be facing a felony. The crime is embezzlement and its a very serious crime. Besides doing time it is a crime of moral turpitude with serious consequences, particularly if you are not a United States citizen, (Under no condition should go on line either at law guru or some other web page and admit that you are not or may not be a citizen) It will also affect your ability to testify in court or to get a job. This is a serious matter and you should immediately hire a criminal defense attorney.
