Re: Forgery

Generally, charges are not prosecuted if a year went by. However, there is no fixed rule. If the offense is serious enough it could be prosecuted well after the date it took place.

In your case, you do not know how long ago the warrant was issued. It is possible it has been out there for quite some time but you found out about it just now.

You need a lawyer for sure. I would not jump to any conclusions as to jail time or what exactly you are facing until an attorney investigates the situation.

Re: Forgery

Asking about time limits is irrelevant. The prosecutor wouldn't file charges if the statute of limitations had passed. Once there is a warrant issued, it is forever. You now need to determine what court the warrant is from, and what the charges are. Your attorney can do that without the risk of immediate arrest you would face of going to court to inquire. You can then figure out how and when to best deal with the charges by appearing in court voluntarily, before you get arrested and transported. Feel free to contact me if serious about getting counsel, if the case is likely to be in SoCal.
