With ''Friend'' who got caught shoplifting at Kohls

My 15 year old daughter was with a ''friend'' who got caught shoplifting at Kohls. I was called to go pick up my daughter & the security guard told me more than once that my daughter was not charged with shoplifting & had done nothing wrong. Now, I have received a Civil demand letter for $200 from their attornys. Can we dispute this or deny any wrongdoing since my daughter didn't take anything & had no idea the girl she was with was stealing?

Sure. You can do anything you like. The problem will come to a head if they bring criminal charges against your daughter, which is implied by their demand letter. BTW: paying the demand does not insure they won't bring charges. If that happens, feel free to contact me for the legal help she'll need.
