Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
A friend is in jail and says he can not tell me why because the phones are monitored. Is this true ? The jail knows why he's in there. Why wouldn't he be able to tell me ?

Because anything he says in jail or on the phone "can and will be used against him in a court of law".
