Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

My god daughter was detained in Philadelphia by customs coming from Jaimaca.17 lbs of marijuana was found among her luggage. She was detained and released on her own recognizance. She fled Philadelphia avoiding prosecution. That was 20 years ago. Since then she has become a productive member if society, becoming a homeowner and gainful employment. She wants to become a mentor and and motivational speaker. This issue is holding her back. Is there a statute of limitations in a drug case of this nature?

There must be, but the limits applies only to the filing of charges. It does not limit when the defendant may be arrested, tried, or convicted if the charges were properly filed. You should presume charges were filed before time ran out. Your goddaughter is not remotely out of the woods.

Her best bet is to get a lawyer in Philadelphia, since that's the charges must have been filed in the federal court in that city. The lawyer can then explain her options and offer some guidance.

Assuming charges were filed, as implied in your text, she has a felony warrant. Warrants are forever. She will have to hire attorneys in that state to help her, and argue here case.
