grand theft over $3K and conspiracy

i have no prior. i am accused of grand theft because an jcpenney employee that i do not know marked down the merchandise and rang me up for a cheaper price. what can i do? conspiracy? it wasnt planned and i did not know what she was doing was wrong...please help me...please.

i do not want to do jail time. is that possible?

Yes, with no priors avoiding jail is possible but you need an attorney to investigate your case and represent you in court. There is no short cut here. If you cannot afford a private lawyer, one will be appointed for you on your first court date.

You really need to hire an attorney to fight for you. I can understand your reluctance to go to jail... who would want that. With no prior record and a good defense attorney you should be fairly successful.
