Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
guns and drugs
about six years ago i was part of a
residential buglary and served on a
90 day observation. a year after that
i was found in possetion of a stolen
car. i served a sentance of 32months
at 80%. i discharged from parole in
eleven months with no violations.
shortly after that i bacame heavily
addicted to methamphetamines and
was known to br in a hotel where
various guns and drugs were located,
i foolishly ran from the law to
another county where i commited a
crime of forgery. i fled that county
also an then found the love of my life
who is the reason i have spent the
last two years working two full time
jobs. working my way up to
managment in both of them. i have
also been enrolled in school for the
past 9 month's to earn a degree in
electronic engeneering. i also have
started a family, having two son's in
the past two years. at one of my
current employers they did a speratic
back ground check and have become
aware of my warrants. again i ran
from the law but intend on turning
myself in next week after talking to a
lawyer. I am worried that i will catch
a sentence of ten years or more. is
this a possability or will the court see
that i have turned my life around?

Re: guns and drugs
Anything is possible. Your attorney will use whatever facts and arguments available to get you either the best deal possible, or the least sentence imposed. There is no magic wand, and no one can honestly tell you that you will be able to avoid all jail/prison time. Your best option is to have your attorney turn you in voluntarily, which will put you in the best position to plead your case. If these charges are in SoCal court, feel free to contact me if serious about getting counsel to help you.

Yes, you absolutely must consult with a lawyer before turning yourself in to advise you about full ramifications of your situation. A lawyer can negotiate upfront circumstances and terms of your surrender, such as the amount of bail. Do not try to handle the situation by yourself.
You should be commanded for your courage to face up to the facts of your situation. You are a brave man clearly motivated by your love for your family. The way you turned your life around will make your situation better for sure. That said, you have significant legal exposure, although not necessarily 10 years even with a strike conviction on your record.
You need to contact a lawyer to fully review and analyze your situation as soon as possible. Feel free to contact my office for a free and non-binding consultation if you need legal representation in Southern California.
