Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

What would happen legally to my friend if he is caught for forging someone's signature on a check after he cashed it? The check was mistakenly sent to his address and the name on the check was close enough to have it cashed at a mom and pop shop. The check was nearly $800. And the police have already been informed. My friend's family is only wondering what to expect.

Your friend is looking at three felonies, potentially.

Forgery, for signing the false name

Grand theft, for taking the $800

And second degree burglary, for entering the mom & pop shop with the intent to commit both of those felonies.

Expect?? Multiple felony charges with potential prison time. Tell him to SHUT UP and say nothing if contacted by authorities or anyone else about the case.

Now, if this is in SoCal courts, and he is serious about defending and trying to stay out of prison, feel free to have him contact me.
