Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
A harmless prank - possible legal retaliation?
Some friends of mine (1 minor, 3 adults) went to a guy's house we all know and threw packets of sauce (unopened) on his yard and front door step, drive way, etc. it was a harmless, non-malicious prank and it was about 200 packets total, 1 of them opened on the driveway but none else. also, they flung some over his back yard fence, but didnt go in the back yard. none of them got any more then 10 feet away from the sidewalk/street. now he is threatening legal action because he has a strong suspicion who did it, and he is claiming vandalism, tresspassing, harassment and littering. there was no damage to speak of, at most, less then 10 dollars worth. the whole thing would take maybe half an hour to clean up, if that, and there was no permanent property damage committed. how likely is it that any of these four people (1 person was the driver, three threw the packets) will be convicted of anything, or even brought to trial? this seems rather ridiculous that this would even be illegal, but what are the possibilities?

I wouldn't worry too much about this. Don't do it again however.

He might be able to get the police to charge you all with malicious mischief. If that happens, yoy will need an attorney to defend you.
