my house was broken into, my husband had one unregistered weapon and one illegal weapon. What are the penalties for reporting them stolen?

By reporting, he confesses to illegal possession. However, the police 'might' not prosecute. Since neither was officially listed in his name, meaning no record of his possession, he gains nothing by reporting.

He would definitely get in trouble for the illegal weapon. Potentially, he could also get in trouble for the unregistered weapon, but I have rarely seen that prosecuted.
