Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
My husband just graduated from college and was speaking to a "so call loan consolidation company to lower his federal student loan payments. We paid them $600 up front and agreed on payments of $39 a month for 20 years.we have so far paid 2 months. My husband has justspoke to someone at the fed student loan center and they have not received a penny of it. They also told us that this company might be a fraud. Is there anything we can do to stop the payment. And get our money back?
1 Answer from Attorneys
Sure. Stop making the payments and sue them in small claims court for refund. File a written complaint with the federal agency and the FBI alleging fraud. But, you still have to pay the loan, so try to work out something with the agency or find a legitimate 'assistance company' if there is such a thing.
