Anything is 'Possible'.

He can TRY anything as a defense.

Success of that claim depends upon the facts and circumstances, witnesses and medical expert's testimony, the law as applied to the specific charges, etc.

IF he can do all those things in court as well as an experienced criminal defense attorney in order to present the claim, then he wouldn't qualify for the defense.

Therefore, he needs a good defense attorney, whether to raise that defense or not.
